Eagle Eye View…

On my morning walk… I heard a cardinal calling…  I don’t know many bird songs, but I know the cardinal.  I started looking for the bird…. There he was atop a tall tree along the road that I was walking on…

His red feathers were iridescent in the morning sunlight and his feathers shown so brightly atop that tree.  I listened as he called out several times.

For me, the cardinal always signifies a message from God… you are important to God… and I pay attention as I need his loving guidance.

As I was pondering my beautiful friend, I noticed a large bird (it could have been a hawk or an eagle) with outstretched wings, floating above the neighborhood.  He was gliding silently as I watched him circle and float above me in the sky…

I was reminded of his perspective and how being so far up above everything… gives a wider view of the surroundings.

Sometimes we get so focused on our immediate surroundings that we can’t see the forest for the trees as some would say.  We are called to rise above our situations and problems and circumstances and to be the observer… taking a new perspective and to get some distance from the situation and to maintain a neutral vantage point…

Is this not what we hope that God is doing for each of us?  Seeing the whole situation with a neutrality that allows for our differences as well as our alignments… and knowing that He realizes all of the influences in our lives and continues to guide and bless us…

Take notice the next time you see the gliding movements of these magnificent birds… and imagine riding there upon its back… gaining perspective and neutrality… our soul purpose…

Moose Story

I just love Moose Tracks ice cream. For some reason, I just really like the little peanut butter cups that give a sweet and chocolatey taste to the mainly vanilla ice cream. I get chided a lot for ordering it every time we stop for ice cream, but I like it… So, I feel a close affinity with the moose… 🙂

One evening we were watching a program on television that involved a man who did long term studies on animals. For this program the man was following a moose and her newborn calf. He had an amazing ability in following different animals and being accepted by them. His tales are extremely interesting and very well done.

He took us through an entire year of following this mother with her calf. She taught her to stand and walk and forage for food. She modeled appropriate behavior and how to get the salt rich plants from the bottom of the ponds. These plants are essential for the moose survival. They avoided attack by wolves and other predators, but when the man finally came upon them in the spring, he witnessed the mother, who was expecting a new calf, sending the year old female away. This young female seemed bewildered at the actions of the mother. Her eyes looked somewhat startled at being shunned and ostracized by her maternal partner. She didn’t know what was happening and it was very apparent. She kept trying to come back and nuzzle with the mother moose only to be rejected and sent away again. The scene really sent a hurtful feeling to my heart…
Have you ever felt abandoned by a friend or someone you thought loved you?

Did you try and try to find out what you had done… to no avail… walking away bewildered and hurt… the individual(s) whom you had supported and loved and thought that they loved you… suddenly, you were no longer welcome… Did your eyes look startled like the young moose? Did your heart ache? Was there any logical explanation? Was there any way to heal the pain?

Seeing this moose being ostracized by her mother, was painful … But even in those times of abandonment and/or rejection, there is a positive side… for the year old moose calf, this is the way of the wild and the species. Moose are actually very solitary. This yearling moose was now old enough to have its own calf and to teach the next generation as her mother had taught her. It is according to the laws of nature. In much the same way, when we may feel ostracized or abandoned… God likely has another plan for us… a path to our destiny that can’t be achieved without this separation. A new tribe to be found and new community to prosper within…

Without doubt, we’re all being called to release the old ways of being in the world that no longer sustain us, and enter unknown territory. We’ll do so because we recognize that it’s no longer possible to find our security in the outer forms we’ve been conditioned to trust…Colette Baron Reid

There is a saying, ‘rejection is God’s protection’… So, we shan’t be too quick to stay sorrowful… rather it is a moment to look for new opportunities of spiritual growth and guidance from our Higher Power.

Be brave…

Existential Exigency

Existentialism – a philosophical movement stressing the importance of personal experience and responsibility for what we make of ourselves.
Exigency – crisis, emergency, a case or situation that demands prompt action.

Reflecting on the words of Oliver Wendell Holmes…
What lies behind us
And what lies ahead of us
Are tiny matters compared to
What lies within us…

I find comfort in knowing that Spirit is my guide and center and that my personal relationship with Spirit is my personal responsibility as I seek to connect with my God/Spirit/Higher Power. This interconnectedness with Spirit can and does happen…Amen… and it guides us in a variety of ways and through a variety of experiences. Even those not so pleasant experiences can be the catalyst that guides us back to Source…

No matter how you find and recognize Spirit in your life, it seems such a comfort to know that Spirit is always with us and we can connect with Source at any moment in any circumstance in a personal and intimate way…  recognizing the Light within and the interconnectedness of all things… knowing that this perspective will guide our response for the highest good of all.

In recognizing this connectedness through spiritual love and peace-filled interactions we can answer the call to service and extend our heartfelt outreach as an extension of our personal relationship with Spirit. Having this personal connection is that warm place in the heart that allows us to go through conflicting moments, but brings us back to what’s really important and what really matters… like a tiny lighthouse in the heart that shines a beacon for us to find the way home.

Many years ago, my husband and I invited another family into our home for dinner. As they arrived, their young son was very animated and nervous to know if we had a television. I assured him that we did and he ran past me yelling… “Emergency! Emergency!” It was a popular television show and we happily obliged by selecting his channel as the adults settled down at our dinner table.

As I was thinking about Existential Exigencies, I thought of this young boy and his words echoed in my mind… we are at a crucial crossroads… that of delving more deeply into our inner most thoughts and feelings and developing a closer and more personal relationship with the Creator.

Yes!.. it is an “Emergency! Emergency!”

FORMING A SILKEN WEB OF STARS

GRANDMOTHER

There is a Hopi myth that tells of Spider Grandmother, according to mythology she was responsible for the stars in the sky; she took a web she had spun, laced it with dew, threw it into the sky and the dew became the stars. (Wikipedia)

The web is such an interesting visual that evokes a mental image of a small insect laboring to connect each delicate and jeweled silken strand in an intricate and yet symmetrical visual masterpiece.  As you gaze upon this amazing piece of work, it strikes the human eye as something of a miracle.  How could this tiny creature have the where-with-all to see this overall finished product even as it belabored to attach each strand in a persistent and consistent way.

“Thank you Holy Spirit for taking care of the details,” my friend often says.

And so we find ourselves walking the web of life~~taking each step without the full knowledge of the overall picture and /or the ending goal.  But we trust that our Higher Self, our Spirit, our Soul, has the overall picture for us and guides us each step of the way

I invite you to share an experience where you knew of the undeniable companionship of Spirit walking with you in your Life… a moment or a story that brought the interconnectedness of all things into your life and allowed you to experience ONENESS with the Divine.
